The process consists of a series of stages: plastification of a thermoplastic elastomer material in the screw of an injection press, where a colouring agent can also be added; injection through a nozzleinto a mould (4) connected to a press by two plates; compaction and solidification of the stoppers in the mould cavities, ejection, collection, inspection and packaging of the stoppers, which can be marked after moulding to personalize them according to a client’s requirements.
The stoppers are typically cylindrical in shape with bevelled edges, between 35 and 50 mm long and 19 - 24 mm in diameter.
Use: Thermoplastic elastomer stoppers, especially for wine bottles.
Advantage: The moulded plastic stoppers are less expensive than cork, avoid the reduction of cork oak forests, and prevent any harm to wine from interaction with cork.
