The "Crémant de Wallonie" appellation
Date : 10 March 2009
March 2008 saw the official announcement of the "Crémant de Wallonie" appellation for Wallon sparkling wine (a blanc de blancs). Here is the single official article:
"Vin mousseux de qualité de Wallonie” and “Crémant de Wallonie” have been approved as V.M.Q.P.R.D (AOC quality sparkling wines) in the sense of articles 54 and 58 of the Règlement du Conseil (CE) n° 1493/1999 of May 17th 1999 establishing particular dispositions relating to quality sparkling wines produced in defined regions and according to the specifications featured in the annexe to this present decree”.
This decree was signed by the Wallon Minister of Agriculture, Benoît Lutgen, following the increasing success of this sparkling wine, which recently launched its range of rosés. Indeed, Wallon sparkling accounts for close to half of Belgian wine production.
