The tourists may not be happy, but the Spanish producers of Cava are grateful that the rain has saved their crop.
The rains finally arrived in May in Catalonia (almost one third of annual rainfall), putting an end to the drought, which was a serious source of concern for cellar masters...
Philip Rowles, of the Freixenet group, described the period as a nightmare. "We now have enough water."
The irony: so much rain fell last month that producers are now worrying about how to prevent decay in their vineyards.
