Peru

- Wine cultivation hardly developed and restricted to the region of Ica (South of Lima).
- 3,500 ha are cultivated for the production of wine and pisco (national drink).
- Wine production estimated at around 4.5 million litres in 2005, among which are found White of white sparkling wines and rosé sparkling wines, cottage industry type, but few sparkling wines.
- The vine-growing and wine-producing industry concentrated around a ten odd industrialists.
- Existence of vine-growing and wine-producing cellars which produce wine and pisco, cottage industry type, but few sparkling wines.
- Oenological equipment: few importers/distributors of this type of equipment. Big producers get in touch with foreign suppliers (including French ones) during professional shows.
Development potential: The well-off Peruvian clientele is getting increasingly selective. Wine is for the major part consumed during festivities. The average Peruvian has no knowledge of oenology.
