Czech wine production
- Vineyards in Moravia, covering 17 984 hectares. The largest wine-growing region in the Czech Republic, including the largest producers.
- Vineyards in Bohemia, covering 726 hectares, only 5 % of the total wine-growing area of the Czech Republic.
- Moravian vineyards in which new grape varieties such as Chardonnay, Carbernet Sauvignon and Pinot Blanc have been planted.
Wine consumption - 17 litres/year/person. Consumption is low but increasing moderately and steadily.
Wine exports - 2 987 100 litres in 2005 for a value of 4.5 million euros.
- Main importer: Slovakia (87 % of exports).
Wine imports - 125 717 000 litres in 2005 for a value of 84.6 million euros.
Sparkling wines - The market is dominated by BOHEMIA SEKT, CESKOMORAVSKA VINARSKA and Stary Plzenec, which cover 70% of the market in sparkling wines, with a production of 27 million litres.
- The market in sparkling wines accounted for 17 million bottles in 2004. These wines are well established owing to the popularity of Bohemia Sekt.
- Imports of sparkling wines: 931 500 litres in 2005, a drop of 47 % compared with 2004. France is the main supplier of sparkling wines (including champagne), with 42 % of the volume of imports and 60 % of the total value of imports.
