Crémant du Luxembourg

Crémant du Luxembourg is the latest addition to the range of sparkling wines from Luxembourg’s Moselle region.
It is distinguished from other sparkling wines by specific criteria: the character and maturity of the grapes, a second in-bottle fermentation.
Quality
Crémant du Luxembourg benefits from the "Marque Nationale - Appellation contrôlée Crémant du Luxembourg" created on January 4, 1991.
This brand is placed on a rectangular label on the back of the bottle. This certifies Luxembourg origin and the quality of the wine, under state control.
* Conditions for receiving the Marque Nationale:
The Crémant is subject to analytical examination in the Institut Viti-Vinicole laboratory and must reach a score of at least 12 points out of 20 in the organoleptic examination. This is based on different criteria: colour, clarity, odour and flavour.
The members of the tasting commission of the Marque Nationale des Vins Luxembourgeois are in charge of carrying out these tests.
Crémant du Luxembourg is subject to much stricter prescriptions than other sparkling wines. The rate of must extraction is limited to 100 l per 150 kg of harvested grapes. CO² pressure must be at least equal to 4 bars after degorgement.
Its production is monitored by an obligatory “Wine-press logbook”.
The varieties
Crémant du Luxembourg is made from the best varieties from Luxembourg’s vineyards: Auxerrois, Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, either as single variety wines or blends.
Each firm chooses its own blends.
Production
50 wine-making producers. 15,777 hectolitres produced in 2007.
Production method
Crémant du Luxembourg is made using the traditional method. The second alcoholic fermentation takes place in the bottle.
Commercialisation
1,549,654 bottles commercialised in 2007
Exports: 88,800 bottles.
