Australia: Zork launches a special “sparkling wine” cork seal
Date : 2 June 2009
Thanks to a system that features a removable cork that may be used to reseal the bottle once it has been opened, sparkling wines will be able to make their bubbles and fizz last longer. Opening a bottle of sparkling wine is always inevitably accompanied by the traditional "noise" that is specific to this type of wine. Once the wine has been served, Zork’s polyethylene cork may be used to reseal the bottle’s neck in order to maintain the wine’s freshness and sparkling nature.
ZORK, an Australian corporation, has developed this procedure in response to the growing market demand for a more efficient solution that would be suitable for sparkling wines.
ZORK launched the product in Australia and New Zealand. It has also expressed that an important wine house is planning to launch its very first "resealable" sparkling wine in July.
Various preliminary tests carried out by the Australian Institute of wine research revealed that using this device to reseal open bottles of sparkling wine may extend the life of the wine as much or even more than using a traditional cork. According to Dave PAHL, who works for Zork corporation, "three important multinational corporations belonging to the beverages sector have expressed interest in our product and have been performing technical testing procedures for the past 12 months".
In the next 10 years, Zork hopes to hold 10% of the market share for sparkling wine sealing methods. Zork foresees launching its product in Europe in the next six months and plans to establish three more factories in the three years to come.
